Good morning, They are hoping to conduct that controlled burn on the east side of Island Pond fire today. We do expect it will generate a lot of smoke – so if you see the smoke / plume increase this afternoon, I wanted to reassure you it is part of their planned controlled burn. Effective today at noon, the operation of any off-road vehicle for recreational purposes on Crown land will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, Kamloops Fire Centre and Southeast Fire Centre. In addition, all on-highway vehicles must remain on defined road surfaces. This step is being taken to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety. Highway 93 is closed between Radium and Castle Junction through the Park due to heavy smoke from the Verdant Creek wildfire. There is no estimated time of opening at this time. There will be a detour in place via Golden and Highway 95. Visibility will be reduced due to smoke. Please use alternate route. The Highway remains at single lane alternating near the Island Pond Fire between Skookumchuck and Canal Flats.
